NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America released its list of 2015-16 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars on Wednesday, with the University of South Alabama's Daniel Jansen among the group honored.
While it marks the first time Jansen has picked up the award, it is the eighth consecutive season that at least one member of the Jaguar program has been recognized.
The Kristiansand, Norway, native concluded his senior campaign with a 74.03 stroke average and three top-20 results — both figures that ranked second on the squad — while leading the Jags with 12 rounds of par or better. After opening the year with a 4-under-par 209 54-hole total to tie for eighth at Southern Mississippi's Sam Hall Intercollegiate, Jansen was the medalist at the Sun Belt Conference Fall Preview with an 8-under-par 205 score that was the lowest three-round figure on the team this season.
He broke par in two of three rounds at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, South's home event to begin the spring segment of the schedule, and closed out the regular season with a 221 figure at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational. At the conference championship the final week of April, Jansen shared low honors on the team with a 217 total that included a 3-under-par 68 in the first round, helping the Jaguars advance to the match-play round of the tournament.
Jansen finished with a 74.25 scoring average and was among the top 20 on four occasions his first season with the program after transferring from Faulkner (Ala.). He graduated from USA in May after posting a 3.29 cumulative grade-point average.
To be eligible for selection as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, individuals must be a junior or senior academically, have competed at least three full years at the collegiate level and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds. The honor also requires that individuals must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher, be of high moral character, be in good standing at their college or university, and — for those at the NCAA Division I level — have a season scoring average below 76.0.
A total of 212 Division I student-athletes earned the honor this season.
