TWO JAG BASEBALL STUDENT-ATHLETES EARN SUMMER LEAGUE ALL-STAR RECOGNITION

MOBILE, Ala. – Two of eight current University of South Alabama baseball student-athletes were recently named All-Stars in their respective summer leagues.

Zach McMullen was named to the Florida Collegiate Summer League (FCSL) North All-Star team as a member of the Leesburg Lightning. The left-hander is 1-1 in six appearances with five starts, and has not allowed an earned run in 18 2/3 innings pitched. McMullen has recorded 19 strikeouts against eight walks while limiting the opposition to a .200 batting average. He did not appear in the FCSL All-Star Game.

Brendan Donovan was voted to the Valley Baseball League (VBL) North All-Star team as a member of the New Market Rebels. In 20 games, Donovan leads the team in batting average (.333), and ranks second in walks (16). He has also recorded eight doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and 17 runs scored while posting a .528 slugging percentage and .474 on-base percentage. The Enterprise, Ala., native has hit safely in 15 of 20 games with the Rebels this summer.

Matt Sharp, a teammate of Donovan's with New Market, is 2-3 with one save in 12 relief appearances. The right-hander has struck out 16 batters in 18 innings pitched, and has recorded a 3.50 ERA.

Joey Jones is 3-0 with a 3.56 ERA in eight appearances, six of which are starts, with the Winchester Royals in the VBL. The left-hander has struck out 27 batters in 35 1/3 innings pitched, and tossed five shutout innings with five strikeouts to earn the win in his last start on July 13.

Jared Barnes has played in 13 games with the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League, and is batting .179 with three doubles, three RBI, five runs scored and one stolen base.

Dylan Hardy is hitting .220 with one double, five RBI, 13 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 22 games with the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the Texas Collegiate.

Avery Geyer is 1-3 in eight appearances, two of which are starts, for the Haysville Aviators of the Jayhawk Baseball League. The right-hander has tossed a complete game in each of his two starts, and has recorded 23 strikeouts against seven walks in 27 1/3 innings pitched. 

Wells Davis competed in the MINK League All-Star Game's Home Run Derby as the representative of the Clarinda A's. Davis leads the A's in home runs (6), and is batting .236 with seven doubles, 31 RBI, 29 runs scored and three stolen bases in 41 games. He tied a season-high with three hits and also drove in three runs and scored four times in a 3-for-6 performance Monday against the Branson Nationals.
