MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama softball team has teamed up with Go4theGoal — an organization committed to raise awareness to help kids with cancer achieve their goals — and Shoe Station to raise awareness and monies for children with cancer.
The Jaguars will wear gold shoe laces when they play host to Texas-Arlington in a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday, kicking off the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® promotional campaign that will run through May 31. All of the proceeds will go to benefit children with cancer being treated at USA Children's and Women's Hospital and their families.
Shoe Station has come on board to sponsor and house the shoe laces — in two sizes, 45" and 54" — for retail sales in the community. Laces can be purchased at store locations in Mobile, Foley and the Eastern Shore, with the cost $5 per pair; $4 of every sale will go to USA Children's and Women's hospital through Go4theGoal.
"We are excited about participating in the 'Lace Up' campaign and being able to help our USA Children's and Women's Hospital in the fight against pediatric cancer," said Jag head coach Becky Clark. "The USA Children's and Women's Hospital serves an integral role in our community and is there for families during some of their most trying times. It is an honor to be able to support their efforts while raising awareness for such a great cause. We value our partnership with Go4theGoal and greatly appreciate their support in helping us make this possible."
The Jag softball team is encouraging all fans, youth softball and soccer coaches and teams, USA faculty and staff, and employees of the USA Health System to participate.
USA softball will be promoting Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® activities through social media with hopes to make this an annual event. To keep up to date follow the program at @USAJagsSoftball and via Facebook at Facebook.com/JagNation.
Go4theGoal's mission is to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing the necessary resources for them, their families, and the hospitals and staff that care for them. For more information on Go4theGoal and their national campaign, Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer®, go to Go4theGoal.org.
