SOFTBALL TAKES ON NO. 4 ALABAMA ON WEDNESDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama softball travels to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday to face No. 4 Alabama for a midweek, non-conference clash at Rhoads Stadium set to broadcast on SEC Network+ at 6 p.m.

USA (26-12) has won 16 of its last 18 games heading into the midweek, having clinched a fifth-consecutive Sun Belt Conference series last weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Georgia Southern. South Alabama outscored the Eagles, 25-1, in two run-rule wins last Saturday, with the victory in game two serving as a school-record 14-straight league win.
 
The Jaguars are batting .306 as a team this season and have outscored their opponents, 204-94. Collectively, USA boasts a .404 on-base percentage and .399 slugging percentage. USA's offense has come alive in its last 18 games, as the Jags are hitting at a .340 clip, led by sophomore second baseman Kaleigh Todd, who owns a .492 average over the last half of the year.
 
Senior third baseman Emily Messer leads USA at the plate with a .455 batting average, 61 hits and 38 runs scored. The Mobile, Ala., native owns a .590 slugging percentage and .510 on-base percentage.
 
Sophomore right-hander Devin Brown eclipsed the program's single-season strikeout mark last weekend, surpassing Beth Pilgrim's 2009 mark of 234. Brown currently has the second-most strikeouts in the NCAA with 243 and counting. The Mobile, Ala., native owns a team-low 1.51 ERA and leads a USA pitching staff that boasts a collective 2.09 ERA.
 
No. 4 Alabama (38-8) recently clinched its fourth-straight Southeastern Conference series by taking a pair from No. 16 Texas A&M in College Station last weekend. The Crimson Tide is batting .321 as a team, led by Haylie McLeney, who is hitting .451 and slugging .716, while leading her club in runs scored and walks (36).
 
The Alabama pitching staff owns a 2.33 ERA and is holding opponents to a .221 batting average. Sydney Littlejohn is 17-3 in the circle with a team-low 1.97 ERA. Alexis Osorio is 12-5 with a team-high 165 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched. Madi Moore is 9-0 with a 2.15 ERA.
 
The Crimson Tide is 17-2 at home this season and owns the all-time series versus South Alabama, 11-0. UA is 6-0 versus the Jaguars in Tuscaloosa, dating back to the teams' first meeting in 2008.
