THREE JAG STUDENT-ATHLETES INDUCTED INTO MORTAR BOARD SOCIETY

MOBILE, Ala. – Two members of the University of South Alabama women's track team and an individual from the football program were inducted into the Mortar Board national honor society on Friday.  The ceremony was conducted at the Student Center Ballroom.

Kaitlyn Beans and Marina Swanepoel — the former was unable to take part in the ceremony while competing at the South Alabama Invitational — were joined by John Robinson in being recognized for their ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership and service.

In addition to earning honorable mention All-America accolades at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships each of the last two years, Beans has been named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List following both of her first two seasons with the program.  Swanepoel was also selected to the SBC Commissioner's List as a freshman and was a member of the league's Academic Honor Roll a year ago, while Robinson made the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll after his first season at UAB before transferring to South.

Originally founded by societies from four institutions in 1918, Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors; there are currently 231 chapters chartered in 46 states.  Members of the society are provided opportunities for continued leadership development, to promote service to colleges and universities, and encourage lifelong contributions to the global community.
