USA (24-11, 12-2 SBC) brings a six-game winning streak into Wednesday's tilt, having been victorious in 14 of its last 15 contests, including 12 in a row in Sun Belt Conference play. The Jags have win 13 of their 19 games at home this season.

Nicholls State (25-14, 10-4 Southland) recently dropped two of three games in a Southland Conference battle at McNeese State last weekend, which snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Colonels. Nicholls State is 6-7 on the road this year.

Emily Messer leads USA at the plate with a .463 batting average, 57 hits and 34 runs scored. The senior from Mobile, Ala., boasts a team-high .610 slugging percentage and .518 on-base percentage. With 14 regular-season games remaining in 2016, Messer is 14 hits away from tying Tara Donaldson's school-record 71 hits, set in 2007.

Another Jaguar in line to set a new season-high mark is right-hander Devin Brown, who was awarded a Sun Belt Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honor for the fourth time this year on Monday, after the hometown hurler struck out 26 Texas-Arlington batters against one walk in 14 innings last weekend in USA's three-game sweep of the Mavericks.

Brown, once again this week's NCAA leader in strikeouts, has 226 total and is eight away from tying Beth Pilgrim's school-record 234, set in 2009. Brown is also second in the country in shutouts (9) and third in strikeouts per seven innings (11.2).

USA is batting .302 as a team with a collective .394 slugging percentage and .392 on-base percentage. The South Alabama pitching staff owns a 2.11 ERA – 18th-best in the nation – and is holding opposing batters to a .203 average.

Nicholls State is batting .283 overall, led by Danielle Phillips's .368. Phillips and Amanda Gianelloni share the club lead in hits with 43 apiece and have combined to score 40 runs. Gianelloni has driven in a team-high 29 runs and boasts a .588 slugging percentage.

Hannah Haydel is 13-7 in the circle with a 1.38 ERA and team-high 92 strikeouts, followed closely by Megan Landry (11-6; 1.98 ERA) and her 87 strikeouts.
