Rounds 1 & 2 resultsBIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kaeli Jones finished with a two-round, 4-over par total of 144 to close day one tied for fifth place to lead the University of South Alabama women's golf team on day one of the Samford Women's Intercollegiate at Greystone Golf and Country Club.
Jones (73-75) turned in a 1-over par 73 in Monday's opening round, and carded a 3-over 75 in round two. She will begin Tuesday's final round 12 shots behind Troy's Fatima Cano, who holds the individual lead with an 8-under par total of 136 through two rounds.
Madison Connell (78-71) turned in a career-low 1-under par 71 in the second round for a two-round, 5-over par score of 149. Connell will begin the final round tied for eighth place.
South Alabama (305-299) closed day one with a two-round team total of 604 after posting a 299 in round two, led by Connell's 71. The Jaguars will begin the final round in third place. Troy leads after two rounds with a team score of 577.
MacKenzie Peyton (76-77) opened her day with a 4-over par 76, and finished with a two-round total of 153. She will begin the final round tied for 18th. Caroline Beebe (78-76) turned in a 4-over par 76 in the second round, and closed the first day with a two-round score of 154. Elisa Axelsen (78-80) finished day one with a two-round total of 158, and Lexi Worrell (81-81) turned in a two-round total of 162.
Tuesday's final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
