FRIZ, ROHR LEAD JAGUAR TRACK EFFORT AT ALABAMA RELAYS

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Jordan Friz surpassed her own school record while Patrick Rohr had a pair of top-10 finishes to lead a group from the University of South Alabama men's and women's track and field team this weekend at the John Mitchell Alabama Relays, held at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Stadium.

Friz cleared 4.05m in the women's pole vault Saturday on her second attempt, and followed by posting a 4.10m mark on her first try to win the event.  It's the second time in as many meets during the outdoor season that the sophomore has claimed the discipline while setting a school record as she became the first individual in program history to clear 4.00m.

Rohr crossed the line in the men's 1,500 meters in 3:49.75, the fastest time of his career in the event, to place second out of 54 runners in the race.  The senior was first among collegians, finishing just over a second behind the unattached Brandon Lasater.  Later Saturday, he came back and ended up 10th in a field of 55 in the 800-meter run after posting a time of 1:53.49.

In the 'B' section of the women's pole vault Kayla Carlile recorded a fifth-place finish with a career-best height of 3.85m.  The effort moved her into a tie for third on the school's all-time performance list.  Jan-Louw Kotze also placed fifth for the Jaguars in the men's discus with a 55.54m mark, with Jobi Finau adding a career-long 47.34m throw to finish 11th in the event.

Matthew Dillon came in seventh in a field of 31 in the men's 110-meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.36 seconds, with Ravaughn Pope ending up 13th in the race .34 seconds behind him.

Laura Labuschaigne recorded a career-best time of 4:33.32 in the women's 1,500-meter run, finishing ninth in the race — the field included 68 competitors — while moving up to fourth on USA's all-time performance list at that distance.  The sophomore also was 15th out of 43 individuals in the 800 meters after crossing the line in 2:16.76.

In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Berta Lucas finished in 14.48 seconds to come in 13th place, .05 seconds and one spot in the standings ahead of teammate Tasha Russell.

On Thursday, Renaldo Frechou recorded a season-best 63.52m in the men's hammer throw to finish sixth out of 31 competitors, one spot ahead of teammate Zach Blahnik who recorded career-long toss of 62.03m.  In the women's event, Michaela Preachuk was seventh and Meagan Hall placed 14th in a field of 35 individuals with marks of 50.05m and 46.19m, respectively.

USA's next meet will be the Louisiana Classics, hosted by fellow Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday and Saturday, March 25-26.
