JAGUAR MEN’S TENNIS WRAPS UP BIRMINGHAM CC INVITATIONAL

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis saw individual success in the navy singles draw in the final day of the Birmingham CC Invitational on Sunday

Senior Juan Cruz Soria claimed the fifth-place in the navy singles draw due to a walkover.  Fellow senior Pierre Noyon advanced past Brandon Lancaster of Louisville in a walkover and then beat Troy's Andy Lau 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Sophomore Lucas Gonzalez came in second-place in the red singles draw after falling to Lipscomb's Daniel Cardenas 6-1, 6-2. Junior Oliver Gingras dropped his match in the draw to Tulane's Eric Wagner 7-6 (6), 6-3.

"It was hard today," said head coach Nick Brochu.  "Lucas fought well but came up just short in the final.  Pierre had a rematch against the Troy player who beat him in the first round and returned the favor.  He improved from the first match and made some changes.  Oli had a good match against the Tulane player but made a few key mistakes in the breaker.  Overall, it was a good tournament for the Jaguars."

The Birmingham CC Invitational was the last tournament of the fall for South Alabama.
