MOBILE, Ala. – Prior to playing in his final regular-season game as a member of the University of South Alabama football program, Devon Earl recorded this week's installment of "Inside JagNation," the official podcast of Jaguar Athletics.

In the episode, the senior from Hoover, Ala., talks about his role as a team captain, his emotions throughout the season this fall and how he expects to feel when recognized on the field prior to the Jags' contest against New Mexico State on Saturday.  Earl additionally discusses how his time at Hoover High School helped prepare him to compete at the collegiate level, his experiences throughout the recruiting process and what he had to do to go from playing on just special teams as a freshman to becoming an integral part of USA's defense the following fall.

A 5-foot-10, 190-pound safety, Earl has recorded 146 total tackles — including 6½ behind the line of scrimmage — five fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and five total passes defensed in 43 career appearances.  He enters Senior Day ranked third in program history in fumble recoveries, fifth in forced fumbles and ninth in stops, while Earl is the school's all-time leader having returned three of five fumbles for touchdowns.

This year, he has racked up career-high totals with 60 tackles and 3½ stops for loss, has recovered a pair of fumbles — running back the first 80 yards for a score to help seal South's victory over No. 19 San Diego State on Oct. 1 — forced a fumble and broken up a pass attempt.  He was credited with a career-best 13 stops to pace the Jaguars at Louisiana-Monroe Nov. 5, made nine tackles against rival Troy and recorded seven tackles with one behind the line in USA's season-opening win at Mississippi State.
