MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis head coach Nick Brochu announced the 2017 spring schedule on Tuesday. The Jaguars will compete in two different tournaments and travel to five different states in addition to 10 home matches.
"I really like our schedule this year," said Brochu. "We have many home matches and will face some really good competition in those matches, such as Auburn and conference rivals Georgia State and Troy. I know our fans will like the level of competition."
USA kicks off the spring season in Tallahassee, Fla. for the Florida State Invitational (Jan. 14-15) hosted by Florida State. The home-opener will be on Jan. 29 against Charlotte.
After a road match against Southern Miss. on Feb. 4 South Alabama will have a six-match homestand that begins against Florida A&M and Nicholls State on Feb. 5. The Jaguars will host Auburn on Feb. 11, Georgia State the next day, and Jacksonville State and Jackson State in a doubleheader on Jan. 16.
The Jags will close out the end of February on the road against North Florida (Feb. 19), Samford (Feb. 24) and UAB (Feb. 25).
After beginning March with the HEB Invitational in Corpus-Christi, Texas on March 3-4, the Jags will then host USC-Upstate on March 8. The Jags will then head to Florida to face three schools in the state: UCF (March 12), Florida Gulf Coast (March 14) and Miami (March 15). South Alabama will also face Dartmouth (March 24 at New Orleans) after that trip.
USA will host George Washington on March 26 and Troy on March 29 for the last home matches of the season. The Jags will end the regular season with three matches in Murfreesboro, Tenn.: Middle Tennessee (March 31), a rematch with UAB (April 1) and Valparaiso (April 2).
The Sun Belt Tournament will be held in New Orleans on Apr. 20-23.
"Again this year we will face many ranked opponents which will give our team the opportunity to be ranked in the top 50 in the country," said Brochu. "One of the goals with this tough schedule is to get the team ready for the conference championship, and I believe this one will be a good preparation for another strong conference battle in April."
