NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama's Brandon McKee became the first member of the football program to earn multiple Sun Belt Conference weekly awards this season when the league office named him the Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
McKee — who was first recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 31 — was honored for his performance in the Jaguars' victory over Presbyterian Saturday.
In that game, which helped USA move to 5-5 on the year, he averaged 45.6 yards per punt with four of those efforts downed inside the PC-20 including two at the one-yard line. Â It's the fifth time this fall that the senior has averaged 45 yards or more punting in a contest, and he tied a school game record as well as a career high with four kicks downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
McKee continues to lead the Sun Belt and rank among the top 10 nationally with a 45.11 average this year, and he is the only individual in the league with more than half (21 of 37, 56.8%) his kicks ending up inside the opposition's 20-yard line.
The Jaguars will play their final road game of the regular season Saturday at Idaho, with kickoff scheduled at 2:30 p.m. (CST).
