JAG VOLLEYBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR PAIR OF SBC MATCHES




MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will compete in a pair of Sun Belt Conference road matches this weekend.

USA (12-8, 3-4 SBC) enters the weekend with a three-game winning streak after three straight sweeps of Troy, Georgia State and Georgia Southern. The Jaguars are winless in road matches this season at 0-5. South Alabama will face Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark., at 6 p.m. Friday, and will face Little Rock in Little Rock, Ark., at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

ASU (15-7, 7-1 SBC) sits atop the SBC West Division standings, and has won its last three contests. Little Rock (8-13, 4-4 SBC) enters the weekend in fourth place in the SBC West, while the Jaguars currently sit in fourth place in the SBC East Division.

ASU leads the SBC in kills per set (14.72), assists per set (13.66) and digs per set (15.81), and ranks second in the league in hitting percentage (.247). Little Rock leads the conference in blocks per set (3.02). USA ranks third in the SBC in hitting percentage (.243), assists per set (11.81) and kills per set (12.62). The Red Wolves also lead the league in assists per set (14.04), kills per set (14.96) and digs per set (17.74) in conference matches. Little Rock ranks second in blocks per set (2.65) in league contests, while the Jaguars rank third in hitting percentage (.226) in conference matches.

Sarah Richardson ranks sixth in the league in hitting percentage (.317) and ninth in blocks per set (1.00). Abby Baker ranks third in the SBC in digs per set (4.37), while Iva Durdanovic ranks eighth in kills per set (2.84) and service aces per set (0.29). Mechell Daniel ranks eighth in the league in hitting percentage (.317) in SBC matches.

Arkansas State holds a 28-5 all-time lead over South Alabama, and has won four straight against the Jags and seven of the last eight meetings. USA last defeated the Red Wolves in a sweep in Mobile in 2013. Little Rock holds a 29-5 all-time lead over the Jags after the schools split a pair of matches last season. The Trojans have won eight of the last nine meetings in the series.
