USA TENNIS PROGRAMS EARN PRESEASON SPRING RANKINGS

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The University of South Alabama is listed in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I Men's and Women's National Team and Singles rankings released Tuesday.

Both teams are in the top 75, while women's junior Laura Valkova is ranked No. 86.

Valkova went 7-5 in the fall, picking up wins in five of her first six matches, including a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ole Miss' Mai El Kamash, then ranked No. 105, at the UNLV Fall Invitational.

The Piestany, Slovakia native advanced to the finals at UNLV – losing to teammate Alexandria Stiteler – and swept all three matches at the No. 2 flight at the Samford Round Robin.

She went 22-11 overall and 13-7 in dual matches in singles in 2015, and finished No. 88 in doubles after posting a 20-4 mark with partner Emily Newton. In addition, Valkova was voted All-Sun Belt Conference in both singles and doubles.

As a team, the Jaguar women are No. 73, up one spot from the final 2015 ranking after going 21-3 and winning the Sun Belt title.

The USA men are also listed at No. 73, down three places from their 2015 ranking of No. 70. Junior Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia), who represented his country at the Davis Cup in October, has posted a team-best 14-5 record in singles. He advanced to the finals of the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships, the best finish for a Jaguar in school history.

The men's program starts its spring season Jan. 16 against Florida A&M, while the women's team starts a day later at No. 28 South Carolina.
