MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama soccer head coach
Graham Winkworth announced Thursday that
Audrey Duren,
Hannah Evans and
Hannah Godfrey will be joining the program for the 2015 season.
The trio will be joining a program that won a school-record 19 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
"We're very excited about the recruiting class for 2015," Winkworth said. "We're still working hard on it right now, but we've got a good mixture of both domestic and international players. We feel that we're still working hard on making two or three more additions to the squad, so hopefully the class will have five or six players when they arrive in August.
"We're looking to create a small, but versatile squad that can compete for championships. We return our whole starting XI and 17 total quality players, so we're excited about the 2015 season and beyond."
Duren, a defender from Semmes, Ala., is a two-time all-county honoree at Mary G. Montgomery High School. She received MGM's 110% Award in 2012 and was the team's defensive MVP in 2013. Duren helped her club team, the Gulf Coast Texans, to a Super Y League championship in 2014, and participated in the 2013 Battle of the Bay.
"I think Audrey has the versatility to play across the backline, either at fullback or centerback," Winkworth said. "She offers a good bit of pace, which is always something that's very attractive for a college coach to find in a player."
A defender/forward from Firth, Nebraska, Evans received all-state and All-Eastern Midlands Conference recognition at Norris High School. She is a four-year varsity letterwinner and was named to the EMC all-Academic team as well. Evans is a member of the Sporting Lincoln FC club team.
"Hannah Evans is actually coached by one of my former players when I was a coach at Central Arkansas," Winkworth said. "She's athletic and can play anywhere on the outside, so she'll compete for time at fullback and on the wing."
Godfrey, a defender from Thornton-Cleveleys, England, attended Hodgson Academy.
"Hannah Godfrey is a very physical player who is one of the strongest players in the air that I've ever seen," Winkworth stated. "She's going to be a major threat on set pieces, and is a good organizer and works her socks off."
