2013-14 WGCA All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Three University of South Alabama women's golfers were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I All-American Scholars for the 2013-14 academic year.

Ingrid Hagen, Jordan Knight and Ashleigh Ryals each received the honor, having met the criteria of a minimum 3.50 GPA and participation in half of the team's tournaments.

It marked the third consecutive year Hagen and Ryals received the award, while Knight was honored for the first time in her career.

"It shows what hard work they have put in to it, not only on the golf course but in the classroom," head coach TJ Jackson said. "They have committed themselves to both and are well-deserving of the honor.

"What gets lost with our sport is that while we are typically gone three or four days (for tournaments), we are on the golf course during the daylight hours and if we aren't on the course then we are travelling to and from so the girls really have to take advantage of every minute they have on the road to get their work done. Sometimes that means turning in an assignment when we get off the course after a 36-hole day. They have done what is required to make the grades while we are competing, and that's what good student-athletes do and I am very proud of them."

Wednesday's announcement marked the ninth consecutive academic year USA has placed three or more student-athletes on the WGCA Division I All-American Scholar Team. Thirteen different USA women's golfers have been honored 36 times as WGCA All-American Scholars since the 2005-06 academic year.
