JAGUARS' CLARK VOTED FCS ADA ACADEMIC ALL-STAR

Trey Clark was selected to the FCS Athletic Directors Association All-Star Team on Tuesday.

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama football student-athlete Trey Clark picked up his second academic award of the season Thursday.

Clark — who was named first-team Capital One Academic All-District 4 in November — was voted to the 14th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team Tuesday, the organization announced.

A total of 58 individuals were honored by a special review committee of Football Championship Subdivision athletics directors which was responsible for selecting the all-star team.  Qualifications for the award include a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale), while individuals must be a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials who participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.  In order to be nominated, individuals must have reached their second year of athletic and academic standing and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution as well.

Clark, a 6-foot-1, 270-pound offensive lineman, graded out at 70 percent or higher following eight of the Jaguars’ 10 games in the fall, also ranking third on the squad with a total of 49 pancake blocks.  He earned a season-high 90-percent grade after USA defeated Tennessee-Martin 33-30 on Oct. 15, also leading the team in the category following each of the first two wins of the season.  Clark posted a team-high knockdown total on four occasions, highlighted by a season-best nine against NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision member Kent State Sept. 24.

The junior from Prattville, Ala., helped the Jags average better than 150 yards rushing and 325 total while scoring nearly 25 points per outing in 2011.  USA finished 6-4 in the first of a two-year transition to the NCAA FBS level.
