ANTOINE RESIGNS FROM USA FOOTBALL STAFF

Ron Antoine announced his resignation from the USA football coaching staff on Tuesday.

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head football coach Joey Jones announced Tuesday that assistant coach Ron Antoine has resigned his position, effective Friday.

Antoine has worked with Jaguar wide receivers the last two years after coming to the program following a two-season stint at Arkansas.

In the last two years, Antoine worked with Courtney Smith — who would set school season records with 38 receptions for 592 yards in 2010 — before the senior became the first individual in program history to be invited to the Senior Bowl.  Jeremé Jones, Bryant Lavender and Corey Waldon all recorded double-digit catch totals in both of Antoine’s seasons, with Corey Besteda and Lamontis Gardner accomplishing the feat as well last fall.

“We really appreciate Ron’s service to the South Alabama football program,” said Jones.  “He did a great job with our receivers, and we wish him the best.”

USA, which began the two-year transition to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision level in 2011, went 6-4 last season.
