BERGE, ELLIS SWEEP SUN BELT FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama student-athletes Emilie Berge and Christian Ellis were voted the Sun Belt Conference Field Athletes of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the league office. This is the second consecutive week Berge has received the award.

Berge scored 5,718 heptathlon points to finish second overall at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, set a new Sun Belt Conference standard and place second in the NCAA Division I standings. She took the runner-up spot in the long jump with a career-best 5.96m (19-06.50) effort which is the eighth-best in USA program history and among the top three in the conference this season. The junior also earned a second-place finish in the high jump (1.78m, 1-10.00).

Christian Ellis' 15.75m (51-08.25) triple jump mark at the 2019 Pepsi Florida Relays broke a USA school record which had stood since 1984. He leads the Sun Belt and ranks 11th in the NCAA this season.

USA will travel to Auburn, Ala. Friday and Saturday for the Tiger Track Classic.
