NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama right-hander Drake Nightengale was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Nightengale (3-2) struck out a career-high 14 batters in a career-best seven scoreless innings pitched last Tuesday against Southern Miss, and allowed three hits while issuing a pair of walks, to earn record his third win of the season.

Tuesday's announcement marks the second time this season Nightengale has been named the league's pitcher of the week. He earned the honor on Feb. 26 after nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings pitched against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 23.

Georgia Southern's Noah Ledford was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
