NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama graduate student
Tabea Griss was named the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Wednesday afternoon.
Griss is the fourth different Jaguar to receive player-of-the-week honors, and third to win on the defensive side following senior
Justice Stanford and sophomore
Tilly Wilkes.
In her only action last week, Griss provided the assist on the game-winning goal as the Jags clinched the Sun Belt title with a 1-0 victory over Appalachian State. Her shot from distance in the 29th minute went off the crossbar but was knocked in by senior Briana Morris to seal the win.
She also led a defense that recorded its 10th shutout of the season, limiting the Mountaineers to just six shots overall and two on goal. The 10 clean sheets are currently tied for fourth in school history.
