KATRINA PUSHES BACK FALL INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE

MOBILE, Ala. –Head coach Steve Kittrell announced Wednesday
that due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina the fall instructional
league has been pushed back until Oct. 2. The instructional league
will run through Oct. 26.
The Fall Instructional
League is the first of its kind to be offered by South Alabama baseball.
The league is offered to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors
and is limited to the first 60 entries. Expert instruction will
be given by South Alabama coaches Steve Kittrell, Ronnie Powell
and Rob Reinstetle. Current USA players will also be offering instruction
to participants.
The Fall Instructional
League will be held at the newly renovated Stanky Field and will
take place every Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon from Oct.
2 through Oct. 26. Wednesday night sessions will begin at 5:30 p.m.
and end at 8:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon sessions will start at 2 p.m.
and end at 6 p.m.
League participants
will have full access to the Luis Gonzalez Hitting Facility, as
well as use of Stanky Field. In addition, each participant will
take part in a Pro-style tryout on Oct 2. In that tryout hitting,
arm strength, speed and fielding will all be graded.
Each session will consist of an hour and 40 minute game that will
include general instruction and a 90 minute hitting portion. Access
to the hitting facility, as well as hitting instruction will be
available up to one hour prior to game time.
The cost of
the entire South Alabama Instructional League (seven sessions) is
$275 and includes a written evaluation and a free South Alabama
baseball T-shirt.
