A two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Rothuysen was selected first-team all-league in each of his three seasons with the Jaguars after helping the program to a 49-15 overall record, three SBC championships and its first-ever NCAA play-in game in 1995. He was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Umbro second-team all-South Region in 1993 after leading the league — ranking eighth in the region and 17th nationally — with 40 points after posting 16 goals and eight assists as the Jags finished the year 16-5. Rothuysen matched that point total the next season to help USA go 18-2-2, and as a senior recorded 16 goals and 13 assists for a team-high 45 points as the Jaguars participated in an NCAA play-in game after claiming the conference tournament title. He ranks fifth all-time in school history with 47 goals and 125 points.
