As a junior, Walters was selected second-team All-America by Collegiate Baseball and third-team All-America by Baseball America after going 11-3 with a 3.20 earned-run average and an SBC-leading 166 strikeouts, the second-highest total on the school season record list. He shared the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher-of-the-Year award that spring, earning first-team all-SBC and all-region honors as well, and was named to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Regional that year. Walters was 10-1 as a freshman, striking out 119 in 117 innings to be named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year as well as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, and he won 10 games and led the league with 119 strikeouts his sophomore year. He was a part of USA squads that won the 2005 SBC Tournament championship and claimed NCAA Regional berths in 2005 and ’06, ending his three-year career as the school-record holder with 404 strikeouts and 410.1 innings pitched.
