A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Zimmerman lettered three seasons with the Jaguars from 1988-1990. He has been called by many as the most talented pitcher to ever play at South Alabama. He left South Alabama following his junior season as the Sun Belt Conference’s all-time winningest pitcher. He was the 27th pick of the Pittsburg Pirates during the 1990 Major League Baseball Draft, the highest pick of any Jag in school history. During his three-year career at USA, Zimmerman compiled a 29-13 record and a 3.01 earned run average. He became the first Jaguar to be named Sun Belt Player of the Year. He was a first team All-America selection according to Colligate Baseball and a second-team selection by Baseball America and the Sporting News. He earned all-Sun Belt Conference honors as a sophomore and a junior. He holds the Jaguar single-season records for innings pitched (158.1) and strikeouts (170), and shares the record for most complete games (13). Used mainly in a starting role during his career, Zimmerman also saw time as a reliever. Following his days at USA, Zimmerman played professional baseball for 10 years.
