Hoffman posted a 19-6 record, a 2.26 earned-run average that still ranked as the best in the school’s record book at the time of his induction, and 193 strikeouts during his four-year career, and was one of two individuals in program history to ever throw a no-hitter. He helped the Jaguars make their first-ever NCAA postseason appearance and also become the first program in school history to reach No. 1 in the national polls in 1972 — the team finished 36-8 after advancing to the championship game of the District 3 Regional — and was part of a USA squad that went 33-9 after returning to the district tournament the following season. After posting a 2-2 mark while fanning 28 in 27 innings in 1971, he led the team as a sophomore with a 1.71 ERA, finishing the year 6-2 with 68 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched. Hoffman earned first-team all-region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association his junior season after going 10-2 with a 1.78 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 91.1 innings as he paced the Jags in victories and strikeouts, adding a victory his final year despite being limited to just six innings pitched.
