A native of Arcadia, Ind., Carson was one of the top players during the early years of Jaguar basketball. He played at South Alabama from 1969-1972. He played on the freshman team during the 1968-69 season before playing his final three years as a varsity member. As a junior during the 1970-71 season, he led the USA to its first winning season in school history (14-12). He ranks as one of the top free throw shooters in school history. His .803 career percentage is seventh in school history and he ranks fifth on the all-time free throw attempted list for a season with 207 in 1970. In a 1971 game against Arizona, he sank 16-of-19 free throws for the second-best mark in school history. He is one of 12 players in the 35-year history of Jaguar basketball to score 950 of more points. He ranks 11th on the all-time scoring list with 988. In 65 career games, he averaged 15.2 points per game. He was the team’s leading scorer in 1970 with a 19.4 average and was second in 1972. Characterized as a strong guard and a team-leader, Carson went on to serve as student assistant coach following his senior year.
