A native of Pensacola, Florida, Slocum is the most decorated golfer to ever play at the University of South Alabama. He lettered from 1993-96 and was a three-time All-American. He helped the Jaguars to three Sun Belt Conference Championships and two NCAA East regional berths. Slocum Played in three NCAA East Regionals, competing in two as an individual, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1996. He was a four-time All-SBC performer and three-time All District. In the summer of 2001, he became the first Jaguar alum to play on the Professional Golf Association Tour with an exempt status. He earned the exempt status three first-place finishes during the 2001 season in the Buy.com Tour. He joined the PGA tour in August and is exempt through the 2002 season. In eight tournaments on the PGA Tour in 2001, he made the cut in six of them. This season, he gained his first top 10 finish on the tour by tying for sixth overall at the Touchstone Energy Tucson Open. Slocum completed on the Buy.com Tour in 19 events in 2000 and 18 in 2001. In the 18 events he competed in, he finished in the top 10 in six of them and led close to wire-to-wire in all three of his tournament wins. With his battlefield promotion to the PGA Tour, he became just the second player in the tours history to make the jump in midseason. At one point last year, he went 72 consecutive holes without a bogey, making him the second player on the Buy.com Tour to ever do so.
