KEN WILLIAMS NAMED TO ALL-SUN BELT MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama sophomore Ken Williams has been voted to the All-Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Second Team, the league announced Tuesday.

Williams earns all-conference distinction for the first time in his career.

A native of Houston, Texas, Williams ranks seventh in the league in scoring (15.9 ppg), second in 3-pointers per game (2.6), and eighth in 3-point percentage (.371) and free-throw percentage (.794). In conference games only, he averages 18.0 points and 2.8 triples per game, second and first, respectively, in the league.

His 3-point total of 82 is currently seventh best at South Alabama in a single season, and a USA sophomore record. With four more points he'll become the 21st player in school history to record 500 in a season.

Williams has 10 games with 20 points or more, including four straight with at least 23—the longest by a Jaguar since 1988-89—and has recorded multiple 3-pointers in 24 of 31 games.

On Feb. 16 Williams was named SBC Player of the Week after scoring a career-best 29 points—the most by a USA player this season—in a win over Texas-Arlington, making six 3-pointers and going 9-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Georgia State's R.J. Hunter earned player of the year honors for the second straight season while Jelani Hewitt from Georgia Southern was tabbed the defensive player of the year. Troy's Wesley Person received the freshman of the year award and Keith Richard of Louisiana-Monroe was named coach of the year.

Williams and the Jaguars earned the No. 6 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and will face Arkansas-Little Rock Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
